Would anyone else enjoy a category for Antiques/Collectibles?

sports collectibles
Chetco asked:

Most such questions are posted under Society and Culture, but I would love to see them in a category of their own.
Then, “Collectibles” would have several headings, for ’sport’, ‘transportation, ‘antiques general’, ‘maritime’, ‘military’, ‘glass’, ‘coins’, etc.
I could see a problem with it generating classified ads, but that happens in other categories already.
Hint–hint. Y!A staff notices questions with stars..

It would be good, except that to break it down into too many subcategories would not be so good. Keeping it general is a much better way.

I think this is a great idea, especially if there is a demand for such a catagory. I would suggest in regards to breaking down catagories, perhaps we could use a well known catagory structure like Ebay. But until we have a trial run of Q&A’s, it could remain a little more general. The questions that are asked can be periodically looked at and used to develop more specific catagories.

I like the idea alot. IF there was enough knowledgeable and decent appraisers as well as other comments. I would hate it having quotes or indentity all over the map if I really wanted to know what I had. I know that I would have it professionally appraised before I did anything, but what would be more dissapointing to think you had a great collectable or antique from YA standards then to go pay to have an appraisal and its junk.

Yes, I would: especially one where antique automobiles could be referenced.

I don’t know though, because I’ve been a member since September of last year; and have posted three different question regarding 1951 Packard Patrician 400’s, one of which I use to own: and only got one response, to one question.

Anyhow, I think it might be a good idea; and I wish you luck in achieving such a category, but realistically, wouldn’t get my hopes up.

    Good Morning Chetco!

Although I’m not into antique/collectibles….I do agree, in that I too would like to see a few more specific categories on YA.

There’s but one category for cycling which at this time covers all two-wheeled, human powered transport: mountain biking, commuting, road cycling, racing, recumbents, tandems, etc. I would LOVE to see more categories in cycling…. seeing as I enjoy being a roadie…. and that’s it.

    Excellent topic! Thank you!

I think it is a great idea, hint, hint, hint, I would like to give a star, but in all honesty I can’t when someone asks, I did the same thing once, I felt inside it was not right to do so, but if others do for you that’s o.k., but I do agree with you.

Wow, I am kind of surprised they don’t already have one, since it would be quite useful and well-visited! Can we make a request for one?

I think they should consolidate all the categories into two.

    Dumb and dumber.
